A New Painting.

"Snake Nest Earth Mass (tentative title)" 15 X 13, gouache on paper, 2012.

my desk with image references.
I've been hard at it, folks.  The hard work has paid off and I just completed my 8th piece for the 2012 season.  Phew.  I think I may even have enough time to squeeze in one more painting before the end of the Mayan calendar.

The photo isn't totally true to color but I wanted you guys to get the idea of what the new piece looks like.  When I take it to "my guy" for a photo shoot I'll post the new one.

This Friday I will be traveling to Omaha to meet with Joel Damon of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art.  Joel invited me and a few other artists to have an exhibit at the Bemis Underground.  It's scheduled for February, 2013.  I'm completely honored and humbled by the invitation...once again, hard work pays off in the end.

    1. Thanks, Tom. I like this one as well. It was a struggle...I started this drawing months ago and liked parts of it but not the whole thing so I set it aside. A few weeks ago I took the unfinished drawing and sat with it for it awhile. I pondered and then began to draw. six hours later, the bare bones of this painting appeared. I'm beginning to learn about patience.

  2. I really like the flow of this one. And the greens you've used.

    1. thanks, rish. I'm trying to become comfortable with all the colors in the color wheel. Funny story, I never used black until this year (i add color to the black to warm it up or cool it down)

  3. That's funny that you say that because in school, the professors always said never use black straight from the tube, always mix it with something like you did. My favorite part is the flowers.

  4. The best part about those flowers is that I based them off of dandelions (weeds!) and marigolds from my lawn and garden. I love including stuff from my physical life into the paintings.

That's good professor advice...never use anything straight from the tube. doctor that shit up.
