Ready for a Weekend.

1. Bird's Nest at a Gas Station in Minnestoa.

I like where birds put their babies.

2. Bullsnake on the Side of the Road.
The Bullsnake was very much dead. I thought he was sun bathing and tried to sneak up on it with my camera. Sneaking up on a dead snake isn't very hard. Pretty guy, though. Too bad about the hit and run.

I've been spacing out a lot.

flood.

Iowa has gotten a lot of rain. The earth has reached a saturation point. Puddles have become stagnant pools of bubbly film and disease that will not retreat into the ground. I've seen kids swimming in those stagnant, bubbly puddles and all I can think about are the staff infections they're about to bring home.

I hear people talk about water a lot. How many inches we're getting, are the going to raise the dam, how will this affect the level of the river, how will this water affect everything. Roads are going to close, the access points for boats are shut down, people with campsites by the river gotta move all of their shit to higher ground or it'll float away. Its pretty impressive and kind of surreal. Fish are swimming in the flood water by the side of the road while gas tanks and giant trees float by, dragged by the current.

Water also shapes sandstone. Thats how history is made. And this photo is a sandstone carving not shaped by water but by a human hand. This entire post was just a way to show you a photo I like that sort of relates to water and...the river. This stone carving is on some bluffs off the des moines river. There were a lot of nice carvings but this was the best one. I would have stayed longer but the bugs kept flying into my nose. I had to climb a long way to get to these carvings, now, the river is so high I'd barely have to step up.

I guess that's it.

barely awake for this one.

graveyard bullfrogs.

After I was done taking pictures of post coital animals (at the cemetary) I got distracted by bullfrogs and bullfrog tadpoles. This bullfrog looked pretty relaxed hanging out in that murky water. I wonder if it knows it's sitting in dead people water?

it was hot.

It’s all sorts of hot, here.
The insides of my spectacles are fogging up and
I wanna write curse words on the glass.

But…

My fingers won’t fit behind the frames.
I would have wrote F U in one lens
And C then K in the other one.

clever stuff.

The sun is making my sweat sticky.
Not in a good sticky way.
In the “this dust is gonna cling to you all day”

sticky kind of way.

And I sorta see some black smudges at the edge of the field.

I'll bet they're buzzards.

Those things would eat me if it got the chance.
Well, they’d eat me if I was lying there dead.
Or dying and feeble.

Gross.

It’s too humid to be lying dead in a cornfield
Getting all eaten by vultures.
Too humid for me anyways,

The deer they’re eating doesn’t seem to mind.

I think it’s too dead to worry about the situation.
And I’m too sweaty to worry about the situation.
Fuck.

It’s Hot.

week old weekend drawing.

iowahappenings.

Sexy turtles. Sexy Geese.

The other day (a few weeks ago) was spent at a graveyard.
There's a pond at the graveyard. People flock to this place because there's a lot of stuff to do. You can watch tadpoles do tadpole stuff, watch frogs do frog stuff, read gravestones, steal old flowers from the facilities area, feed the swans and geese.
Or you can just watch the swans and geese fuck. It is much more enjoyable then stealing flowers from the dead and way more enjoyable then feeding the swans and geese. With that being said, I photographed the pre coitus of the turtles and the post coitus of the geese.
enjoy.

Collab!

This drawing is a collaboration between myself and my internet friend, Tom. I've always enjoyed his meandering doodles and meandering words. So, the natural thing to do is meander together. Check out his work at http://halfmoosewithatwist.blogspot.com/.

Jimi the Goose.

1. Jimi goose is very handsome. He knows it.

2. I scared him with a purple leaf. He's pretty dumb.
